Sovereign Capability Group formed by three Australian firms
The Sovereign Capability Group (SCG) has been established through the merger of three trusted Australian defence companies — Electrotech Australia, Insitec and The Network — creating a new, unified organisation delivering integrated technologies, systems and skilled people across Australia’s maritime, land, and digital domains.
The strategic merger brings together decades of expertise in defence systems integration, maritime communications, and specialist technology recruitment —dedicated to strengthening sovereign capability.
A strategic consolidation of Australian expertise
SCG’s formation creates an organisation with the scale, depth, and diversity to deliver end-to-end capability across critical national programs.
Jim Bancroft, Chief Growth Officer of Insitec, said the merger unites complementary strengths to build a stronger and more resilient business positioned for growth across Defence and government sectors.
“This merger creates a combined entity with the scale to provide significant sovereign capability to the Australian Defence Force,” said Bancroft. “Our trusted relationships with key clients, including the Department of Defence and global primes, will be further strengthened through this integration. The combined capabilities of Insitec, Electrotech and The Network enhance our ability to serve existing customers and capture new opportunities in digital transformation and critical infrastructure.”
Expanding capability across domains
SCG combines Insitec’s prime systems integration and digital engineering capability, Electrotech’s maritime communications and navigation expertise, and The Network’s specialist cleared recruitment services. Together, these capabilities create a uniquely positioned organisation able to deliver sovereign solutions across both Defence and commercial markets.
Joe Ritchie, Managing Director of Electrotech Australia, said the merger strengthens in-country capability while ensuring continuity of excellence for clients.
“By pooling our resources, we can now deliver comprehensive end-to-end solutions, ensuring the highest standards of service and support,” said Ritchie. “We’re proud to continue building sovereign capability within Australia’s maritime and defence industries. This merger allows us to meet increasing compliance requirements while maintaining operational excellence and delivering sustained value to our customers.”
Positioned for growth
SCG will achieve close to $100 million in revenue this financial year and is positioned for significant expansion through both organic growth and future strategic acquisitions.
The merger was facilitated by Australian private equity firm Whiteoak, led by Greg Garvin and Udhav Goenka, who identified the opportunity to combine three high-performing Australian defence companies under one sovereign banner.
“By merging Insitec and Electrotech to form SCG, we are creating a business of real scale that can meaningfully serve the ADF,” said Goenka. “This move positions SCG as a strong, viable entity capable of supporting Australia’s defence needs and expanding into international markets. In the medium term, SCG will provide a substantial in-country capability of real strategic importance to the defence industry.”
